Welcome

from our president & CEO

Dear United Way supporter:

I recently celebrated my first anniversary as president and CEO of United Way of Central Indiana.

What a year it has been!

I first felt a bit like Coach Norman Dale in the film “Hoosiers,” when he arrived at the team’s practice, grabbed a basketball and a whistle, and wondered out loud, “what hand have I been dealt?”

A year later, I know exactly how to answer that question. Nothing makes me prouder than the team of staff, board members, community organizations, companies, donors, volunteers, and advocates who have a passion for this community and a driven purpose to win on behalf of those who need us the most.

We’ve had much to celebrate. Rather than list all the ways United Way made an impact this year – because of supporters like you – allow me to offer this re-cap video for your enjoyment. The video made its debut at United Way’s “Annual Celebration” in June, and I think it deserves an even wider audience in case you missed it. Set to a March Madness theme, I hope you’ll get the watery eyes and goosebumps like I did.

After watching our Year of Impact video, please scroll through our annual report to delve deeper into our work in public policy, grantmaking, data & research, initiatives and so much more. Immerse yourself in the real stories of individuals who are reaching their full potential, thanks to our partner organizations. And know that your support of United Way sets us up for the win – a win for our neighbors and families in need, the human services network in Central Indiana, and for our entire community.

Thank you for all that you do for United Way of Central Indiana.

Our Purpose

Mission

We partner to design, support and grow systems that accelerate financial stability and upward mobility for individuals and families living in or near poverty and striving for a brighter future.

Vision

Central Indiana will be a community where children, individuals and families thrive; neighbors care for each other; and we are proud of all our residents’ quality of life.

Our Service Area

The communities of Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan and Putnam counties.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We strive to maximize our impact on the community by creating and sustaining an environment that leverages the creativity and innovation that result from the unique perspectives that individuals bring.

We believe that our community is best served when diversity and inclusion are embedded in everything we do. As such, we encourage the active participation of our team, including our employees, volunteers, donors, advocates and community partners.

Diversity refers to the similarities and differences, both visible and invisible, that exist among people. Diversity includes values, beliefs, lifestyles, abilities, ethnicities, ages, genders, experiences, thinking styles, backgrounds, orientations, behaviors, cultures, socioeconomic status and the innumerable other aspects that shape an individual’s personality and unique identity. Equity is the intentional inclusion of everyone in society. Equity is achieved when systemic, institutional and historical barriers based on race, gender, sexual orientation and other identities are dismantled and no longer predict socioeconomic, education and health outcomes. Inclusion is inviting and embracing the full breadth of perspectives, fully engaging those perspectives, and leveraging them to achieve our individual and collective potential. Inclusion requires action. Inclusion is more than accommodating or allowing diversity. It is about building strength through the inherent value of diversity and seeing it as a fundamental part of all we do. It requires a focus on how each of us makes decisions and a willingness to recognize and eliminate barriers to inclusion.

Who We Serve

United Way of Central Indiana is proud to represent and make an impact in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan and Putnam counties. In partnership with traditional and newly partnered community-based organizations, United Way invests to respond to our community’s most immediate needs, provide the necessities to stabilize individuals in crisis, improve the education and upward economic mobility of a whole family, create innovative solutions to disrupt generational poverty and dismantle the systems that grow, or perpetuate, racial inequity in our community – all while connecting donors to specific causes they’re passionate about.
